Iris Christidi [IX]

Illustrator | Comics | Graphic Designer | Tweedleologist

Who's [IX]?

Born in Brussels of Greek parentage, I set up base in Berlin, where I fell in love both with the city and with my one and only, my partner in life and Tweedle.

My love for performance, theatre and film got me studying and working as a stage, set and costume designer for more than 12 years, but my passion for illustration and comics notwithstanding put me on the path of working more and more as an illustrator, graphic and comic artist.

In the last couple years I have self-published a few comics and zines (under the self-"publishing house" Tweedlecomix). Titles include « Lampsi », « Nostos », and « Mneme », which refer to a (yet) non-existent auto-fictional graphic novel about memory and identity; and the light-hearted Tweedleologies. I've worked also in two anthologies: “The Rise and Fall of the Bargain Bins” (BK Berlin Underground Comics) and in the new KINQ anthology, a documentary comic that explores fetiches and kinks within the queer community, published by Moom Comics.

I work principally in black and white, using traditional ink but also digital drawing, create high contrasts with deep blacks and a rough, nervous, expressive line work. I usually rework my pages digitally, adding mid-tones to stay in the greys, or for colour.

I enjoy mixing media and playing around with the space of the object [comic] and surface of the page, letting the reader discover new non-linear narrative and interpretation levels, making the reading experience more immersive and sometimes even having the reader interact physically with the comic (probably from my theatrical background).
